Freight BOOKING REQUIREMENTs
Pickering Transport Group is dedicated to providing fast and effective transport services and this often requires the use of hire pallets for our customers, senders & receivers. Hire pallets can offer a more environmentally sound approach by re-using pallets. We have developed the following framework to enable us to effectively manage the use of hire pallets for all users in the supply chain.
For example all freight bookings that involve hire pallets require a certain process to be followed. Please ensure you have read our Pallet Policy above and then click below when you are ready to proceed, or click here to read further information.

PALLET LOAN REQUEST & IOU HIRE AGREEMENT
Pickering Transport acknowledges that CHEP pallets are a burden for us and smaller customers. And that it may be impractical for small seasonal customers to open and maintain a CHEP account. As such we have implemented an interim measure that might be suitable to your needs. This has been revised as of 1/11/2023, and existing customers must re-submit the following form if they choose to continue under an IOU agreement.
- Explore further information about our pallet hire IOU agreement and apply by clicking here for a PDF form.
- Alternatively, apply for an account today using our convenient online form.

Pallet Transaction Definitions
Direct Pallet Transfer
The sender transfers pallets to Receiver, who is now liable and paying the hire costs. This is optimal and all parties benefit from open transparency.

Transfer On
The sender transfers pallets onto PTG’s account. We are then liable for them & get charged a daily hire fee.

Transfer Off
PTG transfers pallets to the receiver, who is now liable and pays the hire for them.

Exchange
Where there is a physical pallet for pallet “swap” made. There is no transfer attached to this movement. This can be on either pick-up or delivery. This is the least efficient approach and requires participants to carry extra stock on hand which increases hire costs.

IOU/Loan
On very limited occasions, PTG supplies a sender with pallets, PTG is still liable and paying hire for them. This is not ideal and relies on the sender to organise a transfer off, from the PTG account when they are sent to the end receiver. Failure to do so can attract a pallet re-stocking fee.
